21st Century Teaching Technological Tools

I had the chance to attend this workshop first. The workshop included an interactive centres-based approach. The centres were; learning how to use twitter, virtual field trip, edmodo, and Edublog. My favourite of the four was Edublog. Below is a picture of me and the presenter for the Edublog center! She is so knowledgeable!

An edublog is an online blogging website. It resembles a cork board or a bulletin board, where someone can post and create different thoughts and ideas about a certain subject. The purpose of this demonstration was to teach teacher candidates how to use edublog in the classroom.

How would a classroom teacher use this in their classroom?
  • A classroom teacher could use an edublog as a demonstration for a new topic or subject (ex: an exploring and modelling activity where the class uses the blog to learn about different aspects of the topic)
  • A classroom teacher could also show the students how to make a blog, and they could be instructed to make a blog over a poster or writing assignment
  • The student can also limit access to their blog, by selecting the 'private' option, and thus only the teacher can view the blog
  • The students may wish to use the blogs for presentations in order to keep their audience engaged and have it easy to follow along

Why did I select this session?
  • I chose this session because I wanted to maximize my limited amount of time at the showcase, and in order to do this I wanted to learn about as many technological tools as possible (and in this case I learned about four in one session rather than just one)
  •  I would absolutely use the information learned about Edublog in my classroom, because I love the idea of having an online bulletin board
  • Edublog could be applied to any subject, and it could even create a story map, or the students may be able to create a virtual field trip for their class or younger students!
